Why did you choose NUS Business School?

I chose NUS Business School for its flexibility, depth, and multidisciplinary approach. Coming from a background that blends technology and business, I wanted an education that went beyond traditional boundaries. NUS stood out for its academic rigour, global exposure, and strong emphasis on holistic learning.

While the BBA curriculum grounded me in core business fundamentals, I had the freedom to explore philosophy, sociology, and community engagement. These courses shaped how I think about organisations, people, and the social realities behind data and decisions. Behind every data point is a human story, and NUS gave me the intellectual tools to see both.

Learning was further enriched by faculty members who brought real-world experience as current and former CFOs, bankers, and industry leaders. Their blend of industry experience and academic insight made learning practical and future-facing.

Beyond academics, NUS shaped my personal growth through overseas programmes, internships, and service. I contributed to children’s welfare as Finance Head of a mentorship programme for foster children with MSF, and as a literacy volunteer with SHINE. Community engagement courses and an overseas service-learning trip deepened my understanding of charity and what it means to lead with impact.

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation?

Accountancy and Applied Business Analytics appealed to me because they sit at the intersection of rigour, clarity, and strategic insight. I have always been drawn to how numbers reveal the truth behind an organisation, and how data, when interpreted thoughtfully, can drive responsible decisions.

Accountancy forms the backbone of organisational trust, and courses such as Assurance and Advanced Corporate Accounting deepened my understanding of controls, governance, and financial reporting, while strengthening my technical confidence.

Applied Business Analytics naturally complements this foundation by uncovering patterns in behaviour, performance, and systems. What excites me most is the intersection of the two disciplines, using data-driven analysis to enhance financial decisions, optimise processes, and design solutions that are both financially sound and socially responsible.

My internship experiences reinforced this passion. At PwC Assurance, I saw how financial reporting, risk assessment, and analytics work together in real engagements. My upcoming Finance (Financial Planning & Analysis) internship at Johnson & Johnson, a healthcare leader where financial decisions directly affect patient outcomes, aligns with my goal of applying accounting, finance, and analytics for meaningful impact. Ultimately, Accountancy gives me a deep understanding of business, operational, and financial data, while Business Analytics transforms that understanding into actionable insights that drive better decisions.

TARAN SINGH BHOGAL

Why did you choose NUS Business School?

Among the degree programmes offered at NUS, I believe the NUS Business School BBA programme offers the broadest scope and the widest range of career opportunities. I sought a programme that would allow me to keep my options open while developing a holistic, 360-degree understanding of various industries and corporate functions. At the same time, I was keen to build strong foundations in business analytics and finance, which are two critical skill areas that are relevant across industries and enable me to maximise my reach when applying for jobs.

Beyond academics, NUS Business School offered me the opportunity to collaborate regularly with others on project-based work, closely simulating real-world professional environments that involve engaging with multiple stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, each bringing different strengths and perspectives. The relatively flexible academic structure of the business programme, which allows us to settle on a major later, was especially enticing, as it allowed for broad exposure during the first two academic years and enabled me to make an educated choice about my academic and career direction.

The mandatory Global Experience Milestone requirement also ensured that I would be able to experience a different culture during my academic journey. Going on exchange at University of British Columbia gave me great insight into a different way of working, allowing me to absorb best practices from a different part of the world and bring that perspective back to my projects, internships and more.

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation?

I have always been deeply passionate about strategy curation. The process of piecing together data, information, and diverse inputs, uncovering underlying insights, and translating them into actionable strategies has consistently energised me. I realised early on that this was the area I wanted to build my career in.

The Applied Business Analytics specialisation allowed me to develop this interest holistically. I was able to learn both the back end of strategy curation – data cleaning, organising, visualising and manipulation, and the front end – crafting solutions to the problems and trends the data pinpointed. The combination of technical rigour and collaborative, team-based work strengthened my end-to-end capabilities.

These skills have proven indispensable across every internship I have undertaken. With my learnings from business analytics, I have not just been able to identify and understand problems by piecing together scattered information, but I have also been able to deliver concrete strategies and actionable steps, which have greatly benefited me in establishing myself as a capable part of whichever team I have been a part of.

Why did you choose NUS Business School?

I chose NUS Business School for its flexible and well-rounded approach to business education, which allowed me to explore my interests while developing strong academic grounding. Learning at NUS Business School goes beyond theory. Interactive case-based discussions allowed me to learn not only from the material but also from the diverse perspectives of my peers, pushing me to think more critically and engage more deeply with real-world business problems. Beyond the emphasis on applied learning, I value the freedom to shape my university experience. From selecting my specialisations to using unrestricted electives to explore disciplines outside business, the BBA programme has enriched my learning and broadened my perspective.

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation?

I chose to specialise in Business Economics because it brought together my interest in economics and my desire to develop a strong foundation in strategic thinking. What drew me to the specialisation was its more applied approach, allowing me to study economic concepts through the lens of real-world business decision-making. The specialisation has strengthened my ability to analyse markets, competitive dynamics and strategic trade-offs, equipping me with a structured way of thinking about business decisions across both regional and global contexts.

A course that significantly shaped my learning is Economics of Strategy, which emphasised how simple, yet powerful economic models can be applied to real-world business problems. Learning to translate theory into strategic insights strengthened the way I approach business challenges with clarity and structure.

Overall, Business Economics deepened my understanding of managerial economics, macroeconomics and strategic management, equipping me with an analytical mindset that is essential for strategy work in today’s complex business environment.

SANVI SINGLA

Why did you choose NUS Business School?

I’ve always believed that business is not just a career, but a way of life. Growing up in a family that deals in global metal trading, I was always surrounded by conversations that were business-related. I used to watch my dad close deals everywhere we went — airports, dinners, even family trips, and I distinctly remember being in awe of him. Everyone seemed to know him, and I wanted to understand what it really takes to build that kind of reputation and respect.

I originally planned to study in London, but fate had other plans. Therefore, I turned my sights to Singapore, and in particular NUS Business School, as its academic rigour and range of opportunities resonated with me more than any other business school in Singapore. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. NUS Business School gave me not just core business knowledge, but also the confidence of having a community that challenges me, peers who think big, and opportunities that make me feel like I’m truly building something for my future.

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation?

I’m majoring in Finance with a minor in Real Estate; a combination that feels like home to me. Finance teaches me how to think strategically about money, growth, and decision-making, while real estate connects back to my family’s business roots. In my world, real estate has always been a symbol of legacy and long-term value, something enduring that will stand the test of time.

But beyond numbers and assets, what excites me most about business is the people side of it. Engaging with individuals, understanding markets, and reading situations is where the real art lies. I am drawn to how business brings together reputation, growth, and an unspoken energy, leading to a strong drive to build, expand, and keep moving forward. To me, business is not just about profit, but about the passion and momentum that come with creating something meaningful.

CHEN YUE YUE

Class of 2026, BBA (Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Marketing)

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation at NUS Business School?

When I first entered NUS, I never planned to pursue Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E). I had studied business since secondary school, and I believed entrepreneurship was full of uncertainty and something too abstract to be taught through structured classroom learning. While pursuing the BBA Programme was a natural next step for me, I decided to stay clear from the I&E specialisation until a friend brought me along to sit in for an I&E class. That moment completely changed my perception of this field. Instead of memorising frameworks, we were learning directly from industry leaders; professors who, prior to teaching, had built, scaled, and invested in real companies. They walked us through the stories behind each venture: the risks, the mistakes, the pivots, the breakthroughs. That was the moment I realised entrepreneurship could be learned and that I wanted to learn it formally at NUS.

One of the most defining parts of my journey came from pitching. I still remember the very first pitch I gave at NUS. It was shaky, unconvincing, and far from what I hoped to deliver. But I&E is a place where you are constantly encouraged to try again. And again. And again.

Through countless rounds of practice, feedback, and guidance from professors who genuinely cared, I transformed. Today, I am no longer the timid student from my first semester. I can now stand on a stage with confidence, introduce my company and product with passion, and present with the clarity and energy of a real founder. This growth, from insecurity to courage, is the biggest gift I&E has given me.

I owe much of my growth to the incredible faculty and all my classmates, teammates, and TAs, each of whom played an irreplaceable role in my journey. From late-night project discussions to pitch practices, from debating case studies to celebrating small wins together, they made my time in NUS Business School richer, more supportive, and more memorable.

A Message to Future Students

If you have even the smallest spark of an entrepreneurial dream, take the leap and dip your toes in some I&E courses. Try, build, fail, learn, grow, and repeat that process all over again. Do not be afraid of uncertainty as it is only by stepping out of your comfort zone that the most meaningful growth happens.

Why did you choose NUS Business School?

When I was in ITE, university felt like a distant dream. I remember sitting in class wondering if someone like me could ever make it to NUS. Many around me saw ITE as an endpoint, but those doubts became my motivation. Those early years were humbling; I worked hard to build my foundation, graduating among the top 5% of my cohort, and carried that same determination through Polytechnic and eventually to NUS.

I chose NUS Business School because it embodies the balance between intellect and purpose. Coming from a non-traditional path, I wanted an environment that challenges me academically while helping me grow into a more thoughtful and people-centered leader. NUS’ emphasis on experiential learning, global perspectives, and leadership development aligns closely with my passion for understanding people and building inclusive workplaces.

I was also drawn to NUS’ diverse and collaborative community, where I could learn from peers with different backgrounds and perspectives. Working with peers from different backgrounds in the Franklin Templeton Financial Literacy Challenge 2025, we were awarded 1st Runner-Up for designing ThriveMom, a programme that helps single mothers strengthen their financial acumen through budgeting tools, debt management, and mentorship.

NUS Business School is not just where business knowledge is taught, but where purposeful leadership is cultivated and where I can continue growing into someone who uses HR to create positive and lasting impact.

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation?

I was inspired to pursue the Leadership and Human Capital Management major by my fascination with people and how the right guidance and environment can unlock their potential. Having faced my own share of barriers, I came to appreciate how support and opportunity can transform a person’s path.

Through my studies, I have also learned that HR is not only about managing processes but about aligning people with purpose. Beyond the classroom, leading community engagement programmes at CAPT and coordinating university-wide events have allowed me to live out these values by building inclusive teams and fostering growth through collaboration and trust. Working on projects like ThriveMom also showed me that HR thinking can extend beyond workplaces, shaping how we design initiatives that bring out people’s strengths.

Looking back, my journey from ITE to NUS has been transformative. It has taught me that growth is not defined by where you start, but by how you use your experiences to lift others and create value along the way. The NUS BBA experience has shaped not only my aspirations in HR, but also the kind of leader and person I strive to become.

VAYERS SEAN LIM

Class of 2027, BBA (Marketing)

Why did you choose NUS Business School?

The more I thought about what I wanted to do, the more I realised I needed to see beyond the tiny island of Singapore. I needed to meet people from different systems, different cultures, different ways of solving problems. When I looked at NUS Business School, I saw a place that could take me there. Not just through academics, but through the ecosystem around it; the clubs, the competitions, the global exposure.

And NUS delivered on that promise, year after year.

In Year 1, I joined NUS Bizad Club and managed to become Director of International Relations. That role ended up shaping how I see the world. I led a team of 15 to welcome over a thousand exchange students from all over the world, organising events, running cultural programs, and spending late nights making sure these students felt at home in Singapore. I walked away from Year 1 with a broader worldview and the confidence to work with anyone, anywhere.

In Year 2, I joined NUS Case Consulting Group. CCG is one of those things that sounds intimidating on paper, with high pressure competitions, and competing against top talent worldwide. But what drew me in was simpler: I wanted to learn how to think clearly under pressure.

In my third year, I’m now in Oslo working full-time at a tech startup called Bev/Art while taking entrepreneurship courses on the side. It’s a full immersion programme by NUS Overseas Colleges where I get to do real work by researching competitors, producing marketing content on site, collaborating with engineers and art curators to tell the company’s story.

So why NUS Business School?

Because it gave me more than a degree. Year 1 taught me to see beyond Singapore. Year 2 taught me to think sharply and compete globally. Year 3 sent me into the world to build. Each step built on the last, and with Year 4 coming up, I’m looking forward to even more opportunities to grow.

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation?

Marketing found me before I knew what to call it. Since I was 17 years old, I’ve performed at weddings and events as a live pianist with local agency AGOPSG. I learnt to read the room and hold attention, or risk blending into the background. Every song is a choice, every transition is a signal, and you’re shaping how people feel in a moment that matters to them. That taught me something I carry into everything I do: if you want someone to remember you, you must make them feel something first.

During National Service with the Navy, I was responsible for documenting our training journey. I captured photos, edited videos, and wrote captions for the official Instagram page. It sounds simple on paper, but the weight of that role hit me early on. These weren’t just content pieces to me. They were my way of sending messages home. When a parent sees their son or daughter on a Navy frigate in the middle of the sea, they want to know that their child is safe, to see them smiling, even when training is tough. My job was to tell that story through the power of marketing.

I chose marketing not because I wanted to sell things, but because I wanted to learn how to make people feel something. Marketing lets me be the storyteller and the strategist, and NUS Business School is the perfect place to strengthen this passion of mine.

GIDEON TAY

Why did you choose NUS Business School?

Choosing NUS Business School for my undergraduate journey was a deliberate decision shaped by my desire to pursue a business education that would be intellectually rigorous while deeply grounding me in real world relevance. Through my university application process, conversations with seniors, peers, and lecturers revealed NUS Business School’s strong balance between academic depth and industry exposure. The school’s emphasis on applied learning, case-based pedagogy, and close industry engagement resonated with me, especially for a discipline as practical as business.

Equally important was the breadth and flexibility of the curriculum, which is intentionally designed to promote T-shaped learning, developing broad foundational knowledge across business disciplines in addition to cultivating deep expertise in a core area. This structure allowed me to explore my interests organically rather than being confined to a narrow track early on.

The diversity of the student community further enriched my experience. Interacting with peers across different academic backgrounds, nationalities, and career aspirations broadened my perspectives and challenged my assumptions. Collaborating on group projects and discussions exposed me to multiple approaches to the same problem, closely mirroring the cross-functional and collaborative environments characteristic of real-world business settings.

What inspired you to pursue your specific major / specialisation?

My interest in supply chain and operations grew from a desire to move beyond understanding business outcomes, to understanding the underlying systems and logic that created them.

Entering NUS Business School, I wanted to understand how organisations really functioned on the ground, from the way processes are designed, to resource allocation and upstream decisions that would shape financial outcomes downstream. This naturally drew me towards Operations & Supply Chain Management, where I learned how strategy can be translated into execution and how operational choices can have direct, measurable impacts on performance, resilience, and sustainability.

My decision to pursue this major / specialisation was further validated through my Field Service Project with Changi Airport Group, where my team worked on a real-world operational challenge within a complex, high-stakes infrastructure system. The project demonstrated how the operations and supply chain principles extend beyond efficiency considerations for the client, playing a strategic role in system resilience, stakeholder coordination, and long-term planning. Through this experience, I gained a deeper appreciation of how well-designed operational systems enable organisations to perform reliably at scale, reaffirming that this specialisation was the right choice for me.

Why did you choose NUS Business School?

I chose NUS Business School because it represents not only academic excellence but also the spirit of resilience and transformation that mirrors my own journey. I was not someone who excelled in school at first; I struggled to find motivation and direction in my early years. In hindsight, however, that period was formative. That journey taught me perseverance, adaptability and instilled the value of lifelong learning, qualities which I now guide me in everything I do.

NUS Business School stood out to me as the ideal place to deepen what I have learned through experience. Discovering My Path Through Practical Experience

I was never the top student growing up and at one point, I doubted whether I would find a path that truly suited me. However, discovering music changed that entirely. Through DJ-ing and organising my own shows, I found a deep fascination with what drives people, why certain ideas, brands and experiences resonate. I began applying business principles naturally by identifying market gaps and building partnerships to grow my brand. My journey as a DJ and events entrepreneur has taught me the importance of leadership, adaptability and resilience. This has further solidified during my time in NUS Business School.

Through education and my own personal ventures, I realised that business is not just about profit. It is about understanding people, creating value and adapting to challenges. I aspire to merge creative intuition with strategic thinking and hope to inspire others who come from humble beginnings to chase their ambitions.
